This month, we're celebrating International Women's Day with an homage to one of Landscape Architecture's most influential pioneering voices: Jane Jacobs. We also sat down with #YLAA member, Aaron Yu, and Assist. Prof. Yong Guo of Tsinghua University to find out more about their journey and school programmes respectively. In this issue, HKILA's Stephanie Lai tackles the growing problem of Transitional Housing in Hong Kong and the institution's support in improving the living conditions of disenfranchised groups.

| What do we really know about contemporary Asian landscape architecture? From outside of the region, knowledge is sporadic. Within Asia, there has been limited exchange, complicated by the relative youth of the discipline. With so many academics training overseas, there is a tendency to look to international influences for validation. As a consequence, Asian knowledge is often conceived relative to North American or European perspectives, which can cloud what is particular or unique to landscape practice.
The Big Asian Book of Landscape Architecture aims to address this gap. Through the framing of ‘Asia as Method,’ this book documents an emerging, diverse, and adventurous contemporary landscape practice. |
