Dear Subscriber,
I hope you are doing well and staying safe amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
Due to the unforeseen pandemic situation, 2020 IFLA World Congress has to be postponed to 2021 with Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) continuing the hosting right for the congress next year. With the revised line up of the IFLA World Congress from 2021 onward, our Asia Pacific regional congresses are also affected.
However, I am happy to inform you that we have successfully worked out the revised schedule for the following APR Congress with our executive committee in consultation with the affected national associations. The final decision and agreement took into considerations the documented approval of the congress hosting for 2021 and 2023 during the regional council meeting in 2018 Singapore and confirmation in 2019 Philippines. It also respected the mutual exchanges and agreement made between the affected national associations.
The Regional congress in Japan organised by JLAU, originally scheduled in 2021, will now be held in 2023, while the Regional congress in Taiwan organised by CTLAS, scheduled in 2023, is pushed to 2024. The rescheduled dates for IFLA World Congresses have been updated, with the 2021 World Congress in Malaysia organised by ILAM, 2022 World Congress in Korea organised by KILA, 2023 World Congress in Kenya/Sweden (joint hosting), and finally 2024 World Congress in Turkey.
On behalf of IFLA APR, take care and stay healthy.
Fumiaki Takano
President, IFLA APR
