Delegate Feature: Claire Martin, President of AILA

Claire Martin is a Registered Landscape Architect that was originally from the UK but is now based in Melbourne, Australia. Presently, Claire is a Fellow and National President of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), a member of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) World Climate Change Working Group, and the Chair of the IFLA Asia-Pacific Regional Working Group. In recent years, Claire has also joined the University of Melbourne's Climate Change and the Built Environment Expert Reference Group, as part of an Australian Research Council-funded research project.  

Professionally Claire is an Associate Director of OCULUS’ Melbourne studio where she has led the successful delivery of a range of education, health, cultural, infrastructure, and public landscape projects.

Driven by her passion for design advocacy, education, and communication, Claire serves multiple roles in the industry. This includes her positions as a member in the Government's Office of the Victorian Design Review Panel, an editor of the Landscape Architecture Australia publication, and a regular guest lecturer at the Schools of Architecture & Design and RMIT University, and a member of the Landscape Architecture Industry Advisory Committee. To add to her list of accomplishments, in 2015 Claire was also named a Co-Creative Director of This Public Life, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architecture’s Festival of Landscape Architecture, which brought together international thinkers and practitioners from both the arts and sciences.
