Welcome to the last edition of our monthly IFLA APR Newsletter for 2020!

To wrap-up the year, IFLA APR's President, Mr. Takano, shares his hopes for a brighter 2021. In line with this message, resident writer Crystal Cheng and the Singaporean Landscape Architects community both discuss the dire need to build a more sustainable future. In design news, we caught up with ONE Landscape Design Limited, to find out more about their award-winning projects and their unique philosophy for success! Last but not least, IFLA APR's Past President, Damian Tang shares his thoughts on the importance of mentorship and how he himself has grown from the experience by helping others.

President Fumiaki Takano: "Let's make it a hopeful New Year"
President Fumiaki Takano:
I became president of IFLA APR in December 2019. In the last 12 months, the Earth has faced many challenges, including Australia's forest fires, the coronavirus outbreak, unprecedented massive rainfall damage in India, Bangladesh, China, and Japan. As you can see, this last year was a challenging year, and we missed the opportunity to meet each other at the World Conference in Malaysia. However, I am happy that the younger generation of IFLA APR members have become more active than ever through the web.

Meanwhile, the move to welcome new members to IFLA APR is beginning to get a result. We have started contacts with Palau, Tonga, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bhutan, Maldives, and Turkmenistan. Every country is interested in IFLA's activities and looks forward to working with us. Let's work together to tackle any difficulties that we might face next year and make it a hopeful New Year.

Take care and stay safe,

President Takano
