Dear Subscriber,

Another year has almost passed and we would like to thank all those who have supported IFLA APR and its initiatives this year, allowing us to strengthen our community. IFLA APR accomplished many things in 2019, and we look to carry on this momentum into the year 2020.

There is no better time to reflect on these successes than the festive season at the end of the year, when people come together and look back on how we were able to reach new heights when we set our minds to it.

As we prepare to tackle the new year, IFLA APR President Mr. Takano gives his opening presidency message to thank Damian for his wonderful work and to share plans for the future. With a new year comes new initiatives and events, a chance to learn more about the IFLA 2020 World Landscape Architects Summit that will be taking place in Penang, Malaysia next year, and find out more about different competitions and programmes available to fellow landscape architects.

We wish you all a restful festive period, a great new year, and a wonderful start to the new decade.

Please enjoy the final 2019 issue of the IFLA APR Newsletter.

Fumiaki Takano and the future of IFLA APR
Fumiaki Takano and the future of IFLA APR
"Our ship will soon embark on a new journey. I hope that it will be a journey of challenge blessed with fair winds. As a candidate for president, I would like to thank all of you who have encouraged me to step up to the role. IFLA APR stands on a foundation built on the efforts of past presidents and many delegates. Damian, you have built a new platform on top of the foundation.

The role of the next era is to further expand the platform, promote diversification and strengthen the network. In this way, I add value to the policy and business that has been established. The next thing I want to do is prepare for the future."

Perspective December issue
Perspective December issue
Much of this current issue has a focus on sustainability; indeed at Perspective this has been a topic close to our hearts for some time. Within the pages of our magazine and in our Perspective forums an awareness of the environment and the continuing positive trend towards a cleaner, greener planet is something we share with the industry.

Moving forward into 2020 this theme will play an even larger role in our content, awards and forums. We will also be doing our bit as we move into a new, greater digital platform. As much as we love our printed edition, Perspective magazine will be going digital-only in 2020.
