Dear Subscriber,

The catastrophe of the bushfires in Australia made me feel that it is a testimony that global warming and climate change have brought the world one big step closer to humanity’s pessimistic predicament. And then, even before the Australian bushfires come to an end, the outbreak of Coronavirus occurred from Wuhan City, China.

In time of such tragedy, I would like to express my profound respect to the people of China who are making an all-out effort to curb the spread of the virus. I would also like to offer my sincere sympathy to all the people who are affected by the disease and going through many hardships.

Today, with more people living in large cities and travelling all over the world, the symbol of development of civilization, which humans continue to strive for, has backfired on us and increased damage only to contribute to the unexpected and rapid spread of the virus worldwide.

Now, our most urgent task is to bring the situation under control as soon as possible and extend a helping hand to as many people as possible in an organized and coordinated manner. It is becoming increasingly difficult for any one country to solve various imminent challenges and problems that it faces.

Therefore, it is crucial for all countries to cooperate with one another, share the values and think in others’ shoes and I believe that our IFLA’s role and daily activities will be more important than ever in these challenging times.

Moving on, we are happy to share with you February's monthly newsletter issue!

Takano Fumiaki
President of IFLA APR

Young LA Alliance Spotlight: Stephanie Legaspi
Stephanie is a proud member of YLAA and is a registered Architect and a Member of PALA. She is also a graduate of the University if the Philippines, Diliman, and is currently working in Plotur exploring business in Landscape Architecture.

"Finding my Identity as a Landscape Architect was not easy. Living in the Philippines where the profession is relatively young, Landscape Architecture is barely practiced. The Philippines is a third world country where the costs of living is greater than the earning wages of the average joe. Young professionals such as myself struggle with our choices. Passion or Money? The practicality of the real word which our institutions have failed to notify us of. Once I stepped out of the comforts of my university as a fresh graduate, I felt lost..."
